National Poetry Day 2020: Landmark's Vision

Today the students at Landmark celebrated National Poetry Day. As part of the celebration the school attended an assembly from their classrooms via google meet. The assembly had several readings of student poetry and some readings from teachers. Below are the slides from the assembly.

Landmark's celebration of poetry! Thursday 1st October, 2020

As part of the celebration every student at the school from the age of 4 to 15 years contributed a line to a whole school poem called Landmark’s Vision. The poem starts with the youngest students and builds to our oldest. Here is the poem for you all to enjoy.

Landmark’s Vision

I like to see all types of doggies, I like to see bouncing rabbits, I like to see dinosaurs in a dinosaur book, I like to see my pretty mama, I like to see a ginormous and fast roller-coaster, I like to see grey ducks.

I want to see flamingos floating happily and giants walking weirdly, I want to see birds cheeping cheerfully and elephants eating crossly, I want to see children playing peacefully and leopards leaping low, I want to see puppies bouncing adorably and ogres stomping grumpily, I want to see bears dancing elegantly and monkeys swinging madly.

I wish I could see a bouncing ball, a new purple planet and talking tomatoes, I wish I could see cute cats, an army of ants or talking toucans, I wish I could see pancake pigs, TVs tripping over, blue bears and lazy lions, I wish I could see the secrets of the sea.

In my mind I see crystal waves in the vast ocean, I see a weasel and mouse scampering over the green carpet of Earth, I see the Red Ball below me, I see a leopard circling its prey like a car at top speed, I see an Earth that shelters all animals like an umbrella of nature, I see a patchwork quilt of gems covering the Earth, I see stillness roaring like a silent wave, I see a river of tranquillity running through the world, I see blue sea full of safe filters, I see beams of light glaring down onto a crisp, snowy forest, I see a soft blanket of peace, In my mind I see a world that is waiting for me.

I can see three young orcas, and dolphins, And abundant, beautiful whales, I can see a creepy, crawly crab, And very small and very cute creatures, I can see a tremendous, roaring, dragon, And an immense orchestra of flailing fish, I can see calm, rippling waves And a pitch-black, unbounded ocean.

I want to see tigers dancing merrily, kiwis drinking cheerfully and giraffes thriving vivaciously. I want to see countries living fairly, and humanity comprehend beneficially. I want to see nature handled justly, and everyone treated equally. I want to see creatures surviving harmoniously, and people existing peacefully. I want to see animosity rejected hastily, and Earth flourishing hopefully.

I wish I could see the cityscapes sparkling like silver, I wish I could see the snow slowly settling, I wish I could see the sea level slide smoothly down, I wish I could see sticky sticks, I wish I could see achievable aspirations, I wish I could see the end of every evening, I wish I could see leaders leading laudable lands.

In my mind I see a packed football stadium full of chanting fans, like roaring waves in the ocean, I see a world of interstellar travel, a feeling of exhilaration whilst entering this new dimension, I see the oceans sparkling; clear and vibrant like the midnight sky teeming with millions and billions of glistening stars, I see myself, as a gardener, planting seeds of hope to grow a more eco-friendly world, I see towers of papered knowledge, steps to the exalted world of understanding, I see a street free from encroaching gazes, like the well awaited release of a long held breath, I see a keyhole with light shooting out of it, like a running river, I see doves singing, bringing the song of felicity and fresh hopes, their beaks glimmering, I see a world where everyone runs a fair race, I see a crystal ball with clear vision to what the future has on hold, I see a future whose roots are anchored in the present, whether it be dirt or solid rock, In my mind I see a moana of hope, waves breaking like a symphony of silence.
